St Andrew’s Church, Jevington
This is a truly interesting church! It has a tapsel gate (just one of six remaining - all in Sussex), which allow coffin bearers to pass either side while the dear departed is carried over the top. Inside the church, there is a bewitching marble monument depicting Charles Rochester of Filching Manor being lured to the grave by his dead wife. And a plaque to the former rector of the church, Nathaniel Collier, which is dated 1st March 169½. Buried in the churchyard is Hartley Shawcross, the lead British prosecutor at the Nuremberg war crimes tribunal.
