This beautiful downland village has many stunning flint-rich buildings and an idyllic village green. Behind the Tiger Inn, whose heritage goes back centuries, is Dipperays, a Georgian brick house built in 1755 for the notorious smuggler James Dipperay. He was arrested and tried but, in return for his freedom, he informed on his colleagues, and later retired here, to make his amends as a church warden.
