Ditchling
Ditchling is an archetypal English village, with a duck pond and tea rooms, and many splendid old buildings. In the nineteenth century, it was one of the few places that continued with the Good Friday tradition of playing marbles, and in the 20th century was home to Edward Johnston, the man who designed the London Underground typeface. Wing’s Place is a stunning building, gifted to Anne of Cleves after her divorce from Henry VII, and the Ditchling Museum of Art and Craft is always worth a visit. The village has some dark secrets, too.
