South Harting

Visit this lovely village for its copper-spired church, outside which still stands the ungodly stocks and whipping post. There is also a friendly pub though you should watch out for local legend Mother Digby, the witch who could turn herself into a hare. But perhaps the very best thing about Harting is looking down on it from Harting Down.

Parking: For the town GU31 5QQ (on street), or for the downs, take the B2141 and watch out for the Harting Down car park (National Trust) towards the top of the hill, GU31 5PN.
