Fulking
Nestled in the shadow of the Downs, Fulking – with its tidily thatched houses, draped in wisteria – is more than worth a visit. It is most famous, perhaps, for its gushing springs and the prominent dip in the road just outside the Shepherd and Dog pub, where Victorian sheep dippers stood waist high in icy water, dredging animals ahead of the annual shearing. There are still some hand pumps, courtesy of John Ruskin, dotted about the village, and the Shepherd and dog pub welcomes non-shepherds and dogs.
