Cissbury Ring

Five thousand years ago, the flint mines at this Bronze Age hillfort were dug out using antler picks and ox shoulder shovels. The mines were an important local industry and today, the uneven ground tells of the tunnels and shafts far below. It is an exquisite site, popular with dog walkers, runners and Sunday walkers. The views are phenomenal. Walk quietly, and you may just spot one of the ghosts that are rumoured to walk these paths, or see the last fairies in England dancing at midsummer.

Parking: Storrington Rise car park, BN14 0HT (approx. 20 minute walk from the ring)
