Church of the Good Shepherd, Lullington
One of the smallest and most charming in England, this flint-built church with its white weatherboard turret is tucked away down a little track, in a peaceful meadow. It is, in fact, the rebuilt chancel of a larger church, the remains of which can still be seen protruding from the earth around it. Originally built in the twelfth century, it still has no electricity for heating or lights, and so most of the services take place in the summer months. The views across the winter-cropping fields towards Alfriston are ageless. Visit for a moment of pure tranquillity.
